Matanga Hills Hampi | Exploring Hampi Ruins | Karnataka Tourism 4K

Matanga Hills Hampi mostly known for Hampi Stone Chariot which is the monument on the Note of 50 Indian Rupees which is a Karnataka Heritage.

Matanga Hills is also famous for Hike or Trek on Matanga Mountain which takes about 1 hr to reach the top leading to the Popular Lookout point for Sunrise and Sunset.

At a distance of 1 km from Hampi Bus Stand, Matanga Hill is located at the eastern end of the Hampi Bazaar. It offers a breathtaking view of the ruined city and the beautiful landscape below.

According to mythology, Matanga Hill is one of the holy places described in the epic Ramayana as the base of Saint Matanga. It is also the place where Sugriva benefited from the magical protection of the sage Matanga who had placed a curse of death on Vali if he dared enter the area of Matanga Hill.

Just Opposite Matanga Hills, there is Virupaksha Temple and Tungabhadra River, just across tungabhadra river, there is a famous hippie place known as hippie island in Hampi.
