Bhagirath Palace
Known as one of the largest electronic markets in Delhi, Bhagirath Palace is located in the Chandni Chowk area. The market offers all types of electronic items including lights, wires, stabilizers, geysers, washing machines, fridges, Diwali Lights Market Delhi CD players and more. The prices here are quite competitive and customers do manage to get a good bargain. Plus, shoppers get to choose from scores of stores. Located in the Chandni Chowk area, Bhagirath Palace is an extremely popular electronic market. If you’re willing to make the effort to travel there (or are already wandering in the Old Delhi area) then it is well worth a visit, with bargains aplenty. Shopkeepers are willing to haggle, and you can get a good price on most of their very large stock.
Expect to find all kinds of wiring, household electronics (fridges, microwaves, and music systems), lights, and personal electronics.
History
Eventually, in 1940, businessman Seth Bhagirath Mal purchased the palace and renamed it Bhagirath Palace.
There is no historical record about how the palace went from being a private property to a wholesale market.
Despite its rich historical legacy, the building today has been neglected, with little conservation support over the years.
Electronics shops, surgical shops, drugstores, Diwali Light Hub Delhi and a motley cluster of outlets occupy it, and several of the establishments run out of enclosures that are a part of the palace’s original structure. According to local lore, the enclosures were used as stables during Begum Samru’s time. “The shops that are running out of the enclosures have not tampered with the original structure of the complex,” said a shopkeeper selling surgical instruments, asking not to be named.

Orient Electric House
Orient is big, bold and utterly beautiful. One of the few places that takes pride in designing and manufacturing their own lamps and light fixtures in favour of Chinese exports. We bumped into three generations of owners who’ve seen this grow and come into the spotlight over the years. Here, you’ll find jharokhas, mason jars, steampunk machinery, gothic-looking rose-bouquet-style chandeliers over and above quirky pendant lamps and strings of lights stuffed into chemistry lab equipment.
Anil Electric Company
Unlike its Neighbours, Anil’s is a small establishment, but if you’re looking for spotlights, fall-ceiling bulbs or even that one-off statement lamp, you can stop by. We spotted wooden lights in the shape of triangles (INR 1,200) and even a brass cycle (only at INR 350) that we particularly liked.
Pro-Tip
Amidst all these old and new lamp shops, you also find a stall so small he didn’t even have a card but God, it’s one of the cutest places we’ve seen. you will find it because we were lost while combing the lanes, and what’s a Chandni Chowk trip without bumping into odd finds, right? They have table fans (yes, so archaic and so cool) in candy colours and disco lights at INR 650. You can try looking for stall no. 39 in the Old Lajpat Rai market.
Vicky Enterprises
This particular shop specializes in Crystal designs and offers a mind-boggling variety of it. The overwhelming finish and fine craftsmanship are truly worth applauding. They sell beautiful chandeliers, LED and decorative fixture lights. Come here, and we assure you, you’ll be spoilt for choice!
