All You Need To Know About The World’s Highest And Longest Tunnel

The to-be world’s highest and longest tunnel will be constructed between Zanskar valley in Ladakh and Lahaul valley in Himachal Pradesh at the Shinku-La Pass with an altitude of 16,580 ft. Tourists need to cover a long route of about 355 km presently to reach Ladakh from Himachal. The introduction of this tunnel will help in decreasing the total journey by 60 km. It will also work in providing all-weather connectivity on the Manali-Leh highway. This will also be a great replacement for the Manali Leh Kargil route.

The construction of this establishment will supposedly commence in the month of July or August 2022. According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) task force has already initiated and set up its headquarters at Jispa. The Director-General of BRO announced that this tunnel will be around 4.25km in length and will be open to every kind of vehicle and that too in all weather.

The BRO DG also stated that there is no plan at the moment to include the Keylong-Sarchu-Leh highway under Project Yojak. But there are chances of another project just to perpetuate this highway and help while building the other tunnels.
