Delhi will stay in its homes for two days, while the 55-hour long weekend curfew begins yesterday at 10 pm amid rising cases of COVID-19 in the city.

NEW DELHI: Amid an increase in COVID-19 cases, the Delhi government set up an weekend curfew in the nation capital this weekend that will remain in place throughout Saturday and Sunday to contain the rapid resurgence of the coronavirus.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said in its order that the curfew would still be maintained every weekend unless ordered. According to the latest restrictions, the city of Capital will remain under curfew from 10 pm Friday to 5 am on Monday.

The curfew will remain in place from Friday night on Monday morning in the national capital.

Shops, malls, markets are currently mostly closed in Delhi.

People can only leave in case of emergency.

Government offices will have to work from home for employees.

Private offices will operate with 50 percent capacity and the remaining staff will have to work from home.

Essential services (including food and medical services) will continue uninterrupted.

Delhi Metro, city buses and other public transports in Delhi will be able to operate with 100% seating capacity, but without standing passengers. All passengers using transport services must follow Covid-19 protocols.

According to reports, only a maximum of 50 passengers per coach is allowed on the Delhi metro. Entry to metro trains and stations may also be restricted if required.

In its order, DDMA has also stated that many people will not be exempted from the weekend curfew in the national capital, and these are:

Officers and officials involved in essential and emergency services will show a valid identity card during night and weekend curfew.

Officers and officials of the Government of India, their autonomous and subsidiary offices and the PSUs to present valid identity cards and to comply with the restrictions imposed by the Union government.

Judges and all judicial officers, staff members of all courts in Delhi, such as advocates, legal counsels involved in hearing a case for a valid identity card, photo entry passes and permission letters issued by the court administration.

Officers and officials in the offices of diplomats of various countries, such as individuals who holding any constitutional post on the production of valid identity card.

All private medical personnel, such as doctors, nurses, paramedics and other hospital services, such as hospitals, diagnostic centers, testing laboratories, clinics, pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, suppliers of medical oxygen and other medical and healthcare products on a valid identity card .

Provide medical and health services to pregnant women and patients, present a valid identity card and prescription together with a counselor

People going for testing or vaccination on COVID-19 present a valid ID.

People coming from or going to airports, railway stations or bus station allowed to travel on the basis of valid ticket.

Electronic and print media for presenting a valid identity card.

Individuals or students shall be allowed to appear in the examination on the production of a valid admit card. Examiners who deployed for exam duties shall be allowed to travel on the production of valid identity cards or examination duty orders.

Individual events for marriage-related gatherings up to 20 people in order to create a soft or hard copy of marriage card.
